Weekend in Victoria

We spent the long weekend visiting our friend's Tracy and John in Victoria, BC. There was so much delicious eating and drinking that I'll just give a brief overview of the highlights.

Friday night we went to a wonderful Korean restaurant (alas, the name escapes me) on Fort St., where the waiter authoritatively steered us a way from the Bi Bim Bop and into the unchartered territory of the seafood platter and the delicacy that is Seafood Pa Jun, a kind of seafood noodle pancake with soy based dipping sauce. It was fantastic and hopefully soon to be replicated in our home kitchen with the assistance of recipe off the internet.

We ate a the Canoe Club Brew Pub twice. It was that good. Tasty pub food, excellent beer brewed on the premises, and some fancier menu twists. Paul got a charcuterie plate for an afternoon snack that hit all the right notes and we particularly enjoyed their seafood chowder and Siren Song Pale Ale.

Sunday we hit high tea and the Fairmont Empress Hotel. This is a must do. Is it worth the $38 per person? Probably not, but that doesn't matter because it's de rigeur, especially if it's your first time in Victoria. It's quite an affair, special house blend tea, a three tiered tray of assorted goodies, fresh strawberries, scones with clotted cream, and a beautiful room that makes you feel very imperial. The best part is probably the tea sandwiches, which were quite addictive, particularly the gingered carrot sandwich. Cut the crusts off all you want at home, you will not be able to reproduce tea sandwiches this delicious, they might even justify the price.

Thanks for the under $8 wines. I will have to try them. It can be hard to find decent wine under $10...

Thank you for visiting my blog and adding it to your list. I have returned the favor and your blog is now on my list. I have not had a chance to visit Seattle yet during my 6 years here in the States but it is on my top priority list (with Chicago) for future trips. I would love to see a post on the-must-go-to restaurants when visiting Seattle. (I hope to be able to go in the near future).
Cheers!
